Activating and Deactivating

Schedules can be activated and deactivated manually or automatically. Activating a schedule "applies" the schedule to the participant and deactivating a schedule "unapplies" it.

On this page, you will find information about:

Activation/Deactivation vs Mute/Unmute

Activating a schedule applies the schedule to the participant and starts the first ping. Deactivating a schedule stops all pings and removes the schedule from the participant. On the other hand, muting a schedule stops all pings but keeps the schedule active for the participant. Unmuting a schedule resumes pings for the participant.

If you deactivate (i.e., unapply) a schedule from a participant and reactivate (i.e., reapply) that schedule later, the schedule will start from "Day 1" of that schedule. On the other hand, if you mute a schedule and subsequently unmute it later, it will resume at the point the participant would otherwise be if the schedule was never muted.

How to Activate and Deactivate Schedules

Automatic Activation at Enrollment

Schedules can be automatically applied to partipants when they enroll in your study using the "Apply to all new participants" toggle in your schedule settings. The schedule will send its first ping after the "start after" value below it.

Manual Activation and Deactivation

Some schedules may not apply to all participants, or may need to be activated and deactivated manually throughout a the course of a participant's involvement in your study. For example, you may want to activate a schedule for a subset of participants only, or you may want to activate a schedule for a specific time period only.

To manually activate a schedule for a participant, navigate to the participant's page within your project and select the Participant Schedules tab. Then, select the schedule you wish to activate from the dropdown.

To manually deactivate a schedule, click the Remove Schedule button at the bottom of the schedule container.

Dynamic Activation and Deactivation

Schedules can be dynamically activated and deactivated based on survey responses or when a participant clicks on a ping. To dynamically actiate and deactivate schedules from within your Qualtrics survey, visit our Schedule Activation API help page.

To dynamically activate and deactivate schedules from within the Inclivio web app:

  1. Navigate to the Settings tab in the schedule page
  2. Find the Dynamic Triggers section
  3. Dynamic Triggers Section
  4. Toggle on the Activate and/or Deactivate toggle
  5. Dynamic Triggers Activation Toggled On
  6. Select the schedule(s) you wish to activate or deactivate when a participant clicks on a ping from this schedule
  7. Dynamic Triggers Activation Toggled On and Schedules Selected
  8. Optionally, select an expiration timeline for the activation or deactivation to reset automatically. You can reset the action after a certain period of time (in minutes) or at a specific time of day. If you include both, whichever is earliest will take precedence. If the participant clicks on a ping after the specified time of day, the action will reset at that time the following day.
