Licenses
Inclivio studies are funded with a license. Each license covers a set number of studies for a set term, with unlimited app and email pings and an allowance of SMS and WhatsApp pings. Licenses come in several tiers, and every tier is a starting point: we tailor each license to your research and set it up with you after we talk through what you need. On this page, you will find information about:
What a license includes
- Unlimited iOS and Android push notification pings
- Unlimited email and participant-initiated pings
- An allowance of SMS and WhatsApp pings. SMS and WhatsApp share a single allowance: each ping sent over either one counts once, wherever your participant is located.
- End-to-end encrypted communication with participants
- Sharing with the researchers on your team, with permissions you choose for each one
License tiers
The tiers below describe the most common setups. They are where the conversation starts, not fixed packages. See Customizing your license for what we can change.
Trial
A free license for trying Inclivio with a real study. A trial covers one project for a short term and includes a limited number of SMS and WhatsApp pings. Each account can start one trial. If you need more time to evaluate, contact us. Learn more about trial licenses.
Study
For researchers running a single EMA or ESM study, from pilot to final participant.
- One study at a time, with more run back to back over the license term
- An SMS and WhatsApp allowance sized to your study
Lab
For labs running several studies at once, with every researcher on one license.
- Run multiple studies at the same time across the investigators in your lab
- A larger SMS and WhatsApp allowance, shared across your studies
- Individual logins for everyone in the lab
Department
For departments supporting many labs and research programs under a single agreement.

Enterprise
For institution-wide needs. Enterprise licenses have a custom contract and pricing agreed directly with our team.
Customizing your license
No two studies are the same, so every license is built around yours. When we set up your license, we can adjust:
- How many studies can run at the same time
- The number of SMS and WhatsApp pings included
- The start date and length of the term, for example to match your grant period
- Which researchers share the license
- Price and payment arrangements, including invoices and purchase orders for your institution

How to get a license
Each license is provisioned after a conversation with our team about the specifics of your research.
Navigate to Billing > Licenses and click Add a license, or contact us directly.
Choose the license type closest to what you have in mind, and click Send request. The type is a starting point, so you don't need to get it exactly right.
The dialog confirms your request and the email address we will contact you at.
Your request is listed under Billing > Licenses with the status Requested. We will reach out to discuss your study: how many participants and studies you are planning, how you will reach participants, how long you need the license, and how your institution pays.
We send you an offer with the license terms and price we agreed on.
Once the offer is accepted, we provision the license to your account. Your request under Billing > Licenses becomes the license, ready for you to attach projects and share with your team.
