Creating Projects

A project holds everything for one study: its participants, schedules, collaborators, and settings. On this page, you will find information about:

Create a new project

  1. Navigate to the Projects page and click Create New Project. If you don't have any projects yet, you can also click the Create a new project link.

The Create New Project button on the Projects page
  2. Give your project a short and descriptive name. This is the name you and your collaborators will see across the application. It is also the name your participants will see when they enroll, so choose something they will recognize! You can change the name later.

If your study should not show identifiable participant information to your research team, toggle on Make this project anonymous. This setting cannot be changed after the project is created. Learn more about anonymous projects.

  3. Click Create Project. Your new project opens, ready for you to configure.

Configure your project

Open your project's Configure tab (the gear icon) to review and change its settings. When you are done, click Save Changes at the bottom of the tab.

  1. At the top of the tab, you will find your Project ID, a unique alphanumeric value that identifies your project. It is sent as a survey parameter with each ping. Below it is your Project API Key, which you need to use the Inclivio APIs, such as the Schedule Activation API. Click the eye icon to show the key. Keep it private.

  2. Add an optional Project Description of up to 300 characters. Your participants will see it when they enroll in your study.

Check the Support Email. Participants see this address in their email pings and in the Inclivio app, so they know how to reach your study team. It starts as your own email address. Change it if you'd like participants to contact a shared study inbox instead.

  3. Under Ping Modality, choose how your participants receive pings by default: the Inclivio app, SMS, email, WhatsApp, or any combination of these. New projects start with SMS only. This is the default for new participants, and you can change it for any participant on their participant page.

  4. The Configure tab also has these settings:

    • Active Project: Toggle this off to stop sending pings. Current participants stay enrolled, but no new participants can join.
    • Enrollment Notifications: Toggle this on to get an email whenever a new participant enrolls.
    • Enable Participant Messaging: Toggle this on to let newly enrolled participants message your research team.
    • Allow self-enrollment, Limit sample size, and Enrollment Link: Let participants join with a project-wide link, and optionally cap how many can join. Learn more in Enrolling Participants.

Get your project ready to send pings

Once your project is set up, a few steps remain before your participants receive their first ping:

  • Fund your project. Your project sends pings through a license. Choose one under Primary Funding on your project's Billing tab. Learn more about licenses, or start a free trial license.
  • Create a schedule. Schedules are the engine that make Inclivio run. You can have as many schedules per project as you would like, and you can apply multiple schedules to each participant. Learn how to create a schedule.
  • Enroll participants. Invite participants or share your enrollment link. Learn more in Enrolling Participants.
  • Invite your research team. Share your project with collaborators so they can help run your study. Learn more in Sharing Projects.

Delete a project

To delete a project, open its Configure tab, scroll to Delete this project at the bottom, and click Delete Project. Deleting a project is permanent and cannot be undone: all participants, schedules, and collected data are removed. Only the project's owner can delete it.
